Simmental Trans Tasman Group Breedplan Performance Data
Breedplan is a modern genetic valuation programme for beef cattle. It produces Estimated Breeding Values (EBV’s) for a range of traits including: Milk, birthweight, 200 day weight, 400 day weight, and 600 day weight.
An EBV is a prediction of the genetic merit of an animal for that production trait
expressed as + or - kg in comparison to a base of 0.
The Simmental Trans Tasman Group Breedplan allows EBV’s to be calculated not
only from the performance of an animal compared to its contemporaries within the
same herd but also from the performance of all known relatives and progeny. It
also simultaneously takes into account correlated traits and genetic linkage across
different herds and so is able to relate an animal’s performance to all animals from
all years across the breed and compare this to a breed base of zero.
Group EBV’s are the best figures available on the relative performance of
Australian and New Zealand Simmentals for each important trait. Used in
conjunction with assessment for structural soundness, fertility and muscling
ability they help take the guesswork out of bull buying.
